Louise J. Gribben, 94, of Boise, Idaho, formerly of Parsons, died Saturday, March 12, 2016, of natural causes.
She was born May 19, 1921, at Holton to Henry Brockelman and Georgine Hochmuth Brockelman. She graduated in 1939 from Holton High School, where she was a violinist in the school orchestra and sang with the glee club and women's chorus. Following graduation, she attended Kansas State University, studying home economics.
In 1943, Louise began active duty as an air hostess on the passenger transports of Transcontinental (TWA) and Western Air Lines headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri. She married Charles Dale Gribben on Jan. 20, 1945, at Linwood Methodist Church, Kansas City, Mo. In 1948, they moved to Parsons, where Mr. Gribben was the owner of Gribben Motors Inc.
Louise was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church of Parsons, for which she worked for more than 50 years serving families of the church and the community. She was a Pink Lady and active member of the Labette County Medical Center Auxiliary, co-founding the Candy Striper program that introduced teenage girls to the nursing profession. She also served as a Girl Scouts leader and Cub Scouts den mother.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; a brother; and her husband, Charles Dale Gribben.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Virginia Gribben of Eagle, Idaho; a daughter, Patricia Gribben of Boise, Idaho; a grandson, Matthew Gribben and his wife, Haley, of Belmont, California; two nephews; and two nieces.
The family will have a private burial at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Parsons.
