Lowell Nelson, 83, of Bartlett, Kansas, passed away at 11:19 p.m., Saturday, June 8, 2019, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

He was born on September 7, 1935, to Oliver Wilhelm and Dorothy Norene (Spencer) Nelson, in Dodge City, Kansas. His early childhood and education was in Dodge City until his family moved to southeast Kansas. He graduated from Labette County Community High School in 1955.

From 1957 to 1959, Lowell served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea. Upon returning home, he farmed in Craig County, Oklahoma. In 1966, he moved to Bartlett, Kansas, and lived there ever since. As a machinist, Lowell worked for Olin Dixon in Coffeyville, Jen-Cast in Coffeyville, Vickers Machine Shop in Joplin, Missouri and then Dana Car Parts in Vinita, Oklahoma, from which he retired.

Throughout his life, Lowell had been a member of Bartlett Presbyterian Church, Oswego Presbyterian Church and was currently a member of the Bartlett United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the VFW, Brown-Bishop Post No. 704, in Parsons.

Lowell enjoyed playing cards and games. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.

On July 23, 1955, Lowell and Winona Griffith were married in Bartlett, Kansas. She survives of the home.

One Son – Mark Nelson of Oswego, Kansas

One Daughter – Sharon Heiskell of Parsons, Kansas

Two Grandsons – Joshua Heiskell and Joel Heiskell

One Sister – Ellen Foreman and her husband, Don, of Panama City, Florida

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry Nelson and Gary Nelson; and one sister, Beverly Foreman.

The Funeral Service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 14, 2019, at the Bartlett United Methodist Church in Bartlett, Kansas. The family will receive friends immediately after the service.

Memorials are suggested to the Bartlett United Methodist Church. These may be dropped off or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
