Lowell Alvin Tarver, Jr., "Boss Hoss" 78, of Parsons, was called home at 6:00 p.m., Saturday, May 12, 2012 at Elmhaven West Nursing Home in Parsons.
He was born August 19, 1933 in Parsons, Kansas to Lowell Alvin Arcephus Tarver, Sr. and Irene (Stephenson) Tarver. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons and was a graduate of Parsons High School. While in high school, he worked for the Katy Railroad.
He then served in the United States Army for two years while being stationed in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Parsons where he continued to work for the railroad until retirement.
He was a member of the Pleas Chapel Church of God in Christ (COGIC), now Watson Memorial Church of God in Christ, in Parsons.
On March 24, 1955, he and Velma Ree Jackson were united in marriage. To this union, four daughters, Deborah, Lydia, Susan and Christie, were born. This union was later dissolved.
He leaves to miss him three daughters, Deborah Waters and her husband, Dr. Kenneth Waters, of San Bernardino, CA; Lydia Tarver of Wichita, KS; Christie Tarver of San Diego, CA; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two aunts, Velma Vanduvall of Denver, CO and Georgetta Rogers of Parsons, KS; and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Susan Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 18, 2012 at Watson Memorial Church of God in Christ in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
