Lucile O. Peterson, 90, a longtime Altamont resident, passed away at 10:15 p.m., Saturday, July 23, 2016 at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
She was born October 5, 1925 in Wichita, Kansas to Oliver A. and Sarah A. (McCrea) Tanner. Lucile grew up and attended school in Wichita. In later years, she earned a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) at Labette Community College in Parsons and continued her education by earning an Associate degree at LCC.
She and W. Hobart Peterson met while attending church youth group in Wichita. They were married March 19, 1946 at St. Francis, Kansas. Following marriage, the couple lived in Colorado for two years before moving to the Fayetteville, Arkansas area. They then moved to rural Altamont where they made their home, raised their family, and farmed.
Lucile loved being an assistant to Dana Saliba at Labette Community College for several years. Her love for music was apparent while playing various instruments and assisting as church pianist.
She and her husband were active members and instrumental in building the Altamont Christian Church where she served as treasurer for many years. She was also a member of the Mutual Benefit Club and Altamont Culture Club. For 20 years, Lucile resided at the North Huston apartments in Altamont. While living there, she served on the Senior Apartments Board and as treasurer of the Altamont Senior Citizens Center.

Daughter-in-law – Peggy Peterson Collinsville, OK

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Hobart Peterson, on November 24, 1993; two sons, David Peterson and Byron Peterson; and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Christ's Church of Labette County in Altamont. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.
