Lucinda M. "Lucy" Pearce

Lucinda M. "Lucy" Pearce, 78, of Parsons, died at 10:45 p.m., Sunday, June 19, 2011, at Elmhaven East Nursing Home.

She was born September 26, 1932, in Pittsburg, Kansas, to Lorenza Dow and Frances Marie (Snow) Wort. She attended country schools in Frontenac three years before moving with her family to McCune where she graduated high school. Following high school, she attended Labette Community College in Parsons.

She and Elbert Harris were married January 23, 1959 in McCune, Kansas. After marriage, they moved to Arlington, Texas where they lived eight years. He preceded her in death in May 1964.

Upon her return to Parsons in 1967, she worked as a recreational therapist at Elmhaven West in Parsons and Retirement Acres in Altamont and also as a caregiver for individuals in their homes. Since 1989, she has been caregiver to her son, Danny.

She was a member of the Friendship Southern Baptist Church in Parsons and the Parsons Area Iris Society.

She and Jim Pearce were married January 3, 1970, in Parsons. He survives.

One Brother – L. Dow Wort and wife, Virginia Parsons, KS
Four Sisters – Fern Mendez and husband, Ernest Springfield, MO
Mildred Butts and husband, Ken Caney, KS
Elsie Leach and husband, Frank Oronogo, MO
Loretta Zuck and husband, Bill Bellevue, NE

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 23, 2011, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in McCune Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
