Lupe R. Cervantes, 89, of Parsons, died at 5:20 p.m., Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at the home of her son in Parsons.
She was born February 28, 1922, in Buffalo, Kansas to Angel and Lusiana (Lazarin) Reyes. As a young girl, she grew up in Independence and Parsons where she attended school.
She and Charles "Charlie" Cervantes were married October 21, 1941 in Labette City. After raising her family, she worked at the Mercy Hospital, National Gypsum, Adventure Line Manufacturing Company and Labette County Medical Center, all in Parsons.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and its Altar Society, VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the "G.I." Forum in Parsons. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing the piano, cooking, fishing and bowling. She especially enjoyed hosting family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cervantes, on June 2, 2010; one daughter, one grandson, and two brothers, Angel Sierra and Lucio Reyes.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 27, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m., Sunday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.
