Luxie A. Garretson, 85, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away the morning of Friday, August 1, 2025, at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa.
Luxie Ann Wilson was born on August 13, 1939, to Levi Alison and Edith Helen (Nelson) Wilson in Moundridge, Kansas. She lived in McPherson, Kansas, until the age of 7, then moved to Galesburg, Kansas, where she graduated from high school in 1957.
On July 21, 1962, Luxie and James L. Garretson were united in marriage at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Parsons. He preceded her in death on June 5, 1985.
Luxie spent the early years of her marriage at home raising three children. During that time, she and her husband also served as foster parents for more than five years. Later, she went back to school, graduating from Labette Community College in 1981. After graduation, she worked at the Parsons State Hospital for six years.
Later, Luxie moved to New Jersey and worked for two years as a nanny. She then returned to Parsons where she became an award-winning Avon representative. When her first grandchild was born, she opened a daycare that she operated for more than seven years while also selling Avon. Luxie enjoyed gardening, quilting, knitting, and spending time with young children. She also shared her interest in arts and crafts with both the children in her daycare and residents at several nursing homes, often teaching creative activities and projects. In 2018, she moved to Garden Villas of Lenexa and then to Delmar Gardens of Lenexa where she lived the remainder of her life.
Luxie was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Parsons.
