M. Elizabeth "Liz" Mansfield, 94, of Joplin, formerly of Parsons, died at 9:04 p.m., Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.
She was born January 7, 1914, in Parsons, Kansas, to Joseph Curtis "J. C." and Fedonia (Benson) Axton. She grew up and attended schools in Parsons graduating from Parsons High School in 1931 and later Parsons Junior College. She also attended Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg.
She taught in a country school northeast of Parsons for 13 years. She then worked at the Kansas Ordinance Plant for eight years before becoming a bridal consultant at Stephens Women's Wear in Parsons for 19 years. In 1980, she moved to Joplin, Missouri.
She and Joseph M. Mansfield were married. He preceded her in death January 27, 1998.
She enjoyed spending time with her dogs. She was on the cradle roll at the First Christian Church in Parsons where her father served as one of its founders. While living in Joplin, she attended Park Plaza Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Axton.
Graveside services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2008, at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons.
Friends may call at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons after 8:00 a.m., Monday, March 17, 2008.
