M. Irene McGill, 103, of Chetopa, died at 4:40 p.m., Thursday, March 27, 2008, at Chetopa Manor where she had resided several years.
She was born February 17, 1905, in Chetopa, Kansas, to Frank Henderson and Lulu Olive (Vanatta) Burnside. As a child, she lived in Wichita, Kansas, and Miami, Oklahoma for several years. At the age of 66, she earned her GED.
She and John S. McGill were married June 20, 1923, in Columbus, Kansas. He preceded her in death August 30, 1975.
Through the years, she worked as a nurses aide at Utes Nursing Home and Welch's Nursing Home, both in Chetopa, and cared for individual ladies in their homes.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Chetopa where she served as CWF president and was an ardent church worker. She also served on the Sunnyside School Board, the Election Board and committeewoman for the Republican party. She enjoyed making quilts for her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, three sisters, two sons, Ralph and Charles Dean McGill, one daughter, Lucille Crookham; and two grandsons.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at the First Christian Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, March 31, 2008, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
