Mabel I. Parsons

November 18, 1915 — February 11, 2014

Mabel I. Parsons, 98, formerly of rural Altamont, died at 5:58 a.m., Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.

She was born November 18, 1915 in Oswego, Kansas to Ora A. and Rachel B. (Needham) Brooks. For a time, she worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant before being employed by Hallmark Cards of Kansas City, Missouri in their Parsons division as supervisor from 1946 through 1962.

She and Cleo W. Parsons were married February 24, 1937 at Mount Vernon, Missouri. She enjoyed working with her husband on their family farm and dairy northwest of Altamont throughout their marriage. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1998.


She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altamont and enjoyed attending church activities in earlier years.

Survivors include:
One Son – Willard Parsons and his wife, Evelyn Wichita, KS
Two Grandsons – Calvin Parsons and Kevin Parsons both of Wichita, KS Eight Great-Grandchildren
Two Great-Great-Grandchildren and two "on the way"
Numerous Nieces and Nephews

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Grace Schuler, Opal Gallop and Betty May; and three brothers, Dale, Forrest and Lloyd Brooks.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Altamont. Burial will be in Oswego Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday at the church. Friends may call at their convenience from 9:00 a.m. through 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont.

Memorials are suggested to First Baptist Church in Altamont. These may be left at or mailed to Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 325, Altamont, KS 67330.
