Mae A. Henry, 102, went to be with the Lord at 2:55 p.m., Saturday, May 29, 2010. She was residing at the home of her daughter in Edna at the time of her death.
She was born March 27, 1908, in Chetopa, Kansas, to Fred A. and Margaret Ellen (Chips) Ewers. She attended school in rural Chetopa.
As a young lady, she worked in her aunt's boarding house in Kansas City.
On December 28, 1937, she and Ted Henry were married. To this union one daughter, Ellen Louise, was born. The family moved to Bartlett, Kansas, where Mae worked at Bartlett Grade School in the kitchen and janitorial areas. She was later employed at the Oswego Guest Home as a nurse's aide, retiring from there, after 20 years of employment, at the age of 76.
Following retirement, she moved to Edna Golden Homes to be near family. In January 2010, at the age of 101, she moved into the home of her daughter.
She enjoyed making pillows and wall hangings, taking bus trips with friends, cooking, and making homemade rolls for her family's gatherings. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and delighted in making homemade cookies and coconut pies for them.
