Margaret Jane Gartner, 87, of Olathe, formerly of Parsons, died at 6:15 a.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at the Olathe Good Samaritan Society.
She was born August 12, 1923, in Parsons, Kansas, to Ferdie and Mary Alice (Musgrove) Smith. She attended Parsons schools and was a 1942 graduate of Parsons High School.
She then moved to California where she worked at Boeing and Lockheed. Upon her return to Parsons, she was employed at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and later Fred Ronald's Manufacturing, retiring from there in 1982.
She was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church now St. Patrick's, its Altar Society and Daughters of Isabella. She enjoyed caring for her family, entertaining family and friends in her home, and dancing.
While working at the KAAP, she met Eddie A. Gartner. They married May 4, 1946, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parsons and had celebrated 62 years of marriage. He preceded her in death February 8, 2009.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Jim Smith, Jack Smith, Richard "Dick" Smith and Bernard Smith; and a sister, Helen (Smith) Kennedy.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Parsons. The rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., Monday, December 27, 2010, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.
