Margaret "Eloise" Lyon, 97, of Parsons, passed away at 7:17 p.m., Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the Parsons Presbyterian Manor following a lengthy illness.
She was born September 24, 1919 in Stark, Kansas to Grant and Ruth (Johnson) Woodruff. The family moved to Parsons during Eloise's childhood.
She married Lloyd James Lyon on May 4, 1935 in Iola, Kansas. He preceded her in death on December 17, 1984.
She was a homemaker. She loved to cook and bake, always preparing huge meals for the family, especially during the holidays. She was known for making divinity at Christmas time. She enjoyed shopping and working in her yard. She loved to sit on the porch reading magazines. She loved her children more than anything and was a loving grandmother. In later years, she worked in the nurseries of local churches taking care of children.
Survivors include her daughters, Virginia Wheat of Andover and Sonya Johnson and her husband, Carl, of rural Parsons; daughter-in-law, Ruby Lyon of Wichita; grandchildren, Kim Tignor and husband, George, of Andover, Lisa Bates of Parsons, Lynette Long of Tulsa, Brent Wheat and his wife, Pam, of Fair Grove, MO, Mitch Lyon of Andover, Jeff Lyon and his wife, Sandy, of Andover, Tammy Keene and her husband, Bud, of Andover, Will Johnson of Pomona, and Rob Johnson and his wife, Brandee, of Pittsburg; 23 great-grandchildren and 34 great-great-grandchildren. A cousin, Betty Carson Butler, of Chanute also survives.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Don Lyon, in 2010, an infant daughter, Marjorie, an infant granddaughter, Terri Lyon, and two sisters, Beulah LaRue and Florence Davis. She was also preceded in death by all of her nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
