Margaret L. "Peggy" Titus

Margaret L. "Peggy" Titus, 76, of Parsons, died at 9:55 a.m., Sunday, December 14, 2008, at her home.

She was born August 26, 1932, in St. Paul, Kansas, to George A. and Adeline (Bradshaw) Burkhart. As a young girl, she grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Francis High School.

She then attended Beauty College in Pittsburg before moving to Parsons in 1956. She worked as a hairdresser in Parsons and, for over 20 years, she operated a day care center in her home. She and her husband were owners and operators, for over thirty years, of several restaurants in the area, including the Strauss Club and, from 1969 to 1998, Jim's Club and O.J.'s Bar & Grill in Parsons. They also managed the Stockyards café in Parsons and the restaurant at the Parsons Country Club.

She loved bright colors and was never afraid of being different. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, shopping, spending time at Grand Lake, and attending her grandchildren's sporting events. She looked forward to spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed life!

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons and its Altar Society, the VFW Auxiliary, American Legion, Elks and Eagles.

She and James M. "O.J." Titus were married November 17, 1959, in Oswego, Kansas. On their 40th wedding anniversary, they renewed their vows at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. He preceded her in death on April 14, 2001.

Fifteen Great-Grandchildren – Austin Ryan, Taylor Ryan, Brielle Vandervoort, Klein Ryan, Ashlyn Gum, Reece Mathis, Abigail Ryan, Noah Ryan, Colin Ryan, Colton Ryan, Luke Ryan, Marion Ryan, Evan Raines, Kaitlyn Ryan and Manaye Ryan-Harris

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, George Burkhart and Cyril "Danny" Heck, Jr.; and one sister, Norma Jean Wilson.

The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 18, 2008, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in St. Paul. The Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends immediately following the Rosary.
