Marie Emerick, 85, of Parsons, died at 5:07 p.m., Thursday, November 6, 2008, at Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons.
She was born January 9, 1923, in Lenapah, Oklahoma, to Jim and Lucy Marie (Payton) Bartlett. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Mound Valley where she grew up and attended school.
She and Elmer Gwartney were married in 1940. Following marriage, they lived and farmed in the Labette County area. He preceded her in death April 17, 1954. She and Harry Emerick were married. He preceded her in death in November 1987. In 1990, she moved to Parsons where she had lived since.
In earlier years, she attended and was a member of the Mound Valley Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, raising cattle and spending time with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one sister, and infant son, Clay Edward Gwartney, in November 1944.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, November 10, 2008, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home.
