Marjorie C. Gillespie, 95, of Enid, Oklahoma, and formerly of St. Paul, passed away at 10:15 a.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2021, at St. Mary's Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma.
Marjorie Christina Sevart was born on March 11, 1926, to Henry E. and Cecelia (Richards) Sevart in St. Paul. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in St. Paul, graduating from St. Francis High School.
Following high school, Marjorie worked at the Bank of Erie, the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and at the Hallmark plant in Parsons for nine years. On October 1, 1953, she and Alvin Eugene "Gene" Gillespie were united in marriage at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. The couple moved to Wichita in 1954 and then later to Merriam, Kansas. In 2009, the couple moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where she had lived since.
She was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Enid and the Altar Guild there. Over the years, Marjorie volunteered for various charitable organizations. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, canning, watching EWTN and listening to music. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family and she enjoyed printing pictures for them.
Survivors include:
One daughter – Margene Burnham and her husband, Gene, of Pond Creek, Oklahoma
Four grandchildren – Sheldon Burnham of Dallas, Texas
Samuel Burnham of Ridge Crest, California
Bret Burnham and his wife, Marcie, of Yukon, Oklahoma
Jin Yu Burnham, Sisters of St. Francis of the Martyr St. George, of Alton, Illinois
Two great-grandchildren – Christopher and Kinsley Burnham
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Gillespie, on January 18, 2015; one daughter, Janeen Gillespie, on February 17, 2000; six brothers; and two sisters.
The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in St. Paul. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends following the rosary. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9:00 a.m., Tuesday to sign the register.
