Mark A. Carter, 50, a lifelong resident of Chetopa, died at 5:50 p.m., Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at the Labette County Medical Center in Parsons.
He was born February 20, 1956 in Oswego, Kansas to Robert G. Carter, Sr. and Wilma H. (Merriweather) Carter. As a youth, he attended schools in Chetopa and Coffeyville.
He worked for the City of Chetopa for 17 years as superintendent of the Street Department.
On March 9, 1979, he and Brenda Strickland were married at the First Baptist Church in Chetopa. She survives of the home.
He was a member of the Chetopa Masonic Lodge, Chetopa Pacers 4-H Club, Chetopa VoAg Boosters, President of Chetopa Little League for a number of years, had worked with Labette County Little League and Chetopa girls and boys softball teams. He and his family had shown the Carter Club lambs for 17 years at various venues. He started and organized the ABC Classic and Ag Booster Club and had supported the 4-H and FFA youth in Chetopa for many years. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Chetopa.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 29, 2007 at the First Baptist Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Sunday, January 28, 2007 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
