Marlyn Kay Johnston, 85, of rural Coffeyville, passed away at 8:03 a.m., Friday, December 23, 2022, at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
Marlyn Kay Baird was born on April 17, 1937, to Charles E. and Orpha Lee (Summers) Baird in rural Labette County, Kansas. She grew up and attended school in rural Labette County, graduating from Labette County Community High School in 1955.
On January 22, 1956, Marlyn Kay and Dale L. Johnston were united in marriage in the home of her parents. Following marriage, the couple lived in Wichita for a time and then near Chetopa. They then settled on their farm near Coffeyville, where the family lived and farmed for 62 years.
Marlyn Kay earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in education from Pittsburg State University. For a few years, she was a teacher in the public schools. Most of her time was spent raising her family and helping with the family farm.
Her greatest joy came from being outdoors. She loved caring for and mowing her lawn.
Survivors include:
One son – Chuck Johnston (Alysia) of Edna, Kansas
One daughter – Terri Huseman (Brian) of Tonganoxie, Kansas
Eight grandchildren – Weslie Nolte (Heath); Curtis Johnston (Kaitlyn); Shelbie Trotnic (Damon); Levi Huseman (Mallory); Kezia Huseman (Robert Pittard); Asher Huseman (Jessa); Gad Huseman; and Zeb Huseman
Eleven great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, on September 20, 2015.
There will be a graveside service at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Lake Creek Cemetery in Bartlett.
