Marshall Lee Abernathy, 47, of Parsons, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at his home.

He was born August 22, 1967 in Parsons, Kansas to Marshall Lee Abernathy, Sr. and Beatrice Stephenson. Marshall grew up in Parsons where he attended school and was a 1985 graduate of Parsons High School. He then earned an Associate degree from Cowley Community College in Arkansas City, Kansas.

While serving in the United States Army during the Gulf War, Marshall was deployed to Riad, Saudi Arabia. Upon his honorable discharge, he lived in Pittsburg for a time before returning to Parsons where he worked as a machinist and foreman at Dayton Superior.

He was a member of the Watson Memorial Church of God in Christ where he also served as a deacon. He enjoyed all sports, especially softball, and fishing.

He and Linda Key were married. They later divorced. He and Christine Winkler were married. They later divorced.

Michael Smith and wife, Sheila Parsons, KS
Two Sisters – Dorothy Dennis Parsons, KS
Delores Dodd Parsons, KS

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Emmett D. Smith.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Watson Memorial Church of God In Christ in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.

Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
