Marvin Dale Wulf, 79, of Chetopa, Kansas, passed away at 9:25 a.m., Friday, March 21, 2014 at Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
He was born September 3, 1934 in Hackberry Township, south of Bartlett, Kansas to Ernest Leroy and Goldia (Horn) Wulf. He attended grades one through eight in the Baylor School District in a one room schoolhouse and was a 1952 graduate of Chetopa High School.
Following graduation, he was drafted into the military and served in the armed forces 15 years and the Army National Guard in Coffeyville, Kansas eight years. During his 23 years of service to his country, he served two tours of service in Germany and one tour of service in Korea as a platoon sergeant and tank commander.
He married Pattsy Lorene Myers of Galena, Kansas on July 5, 1958. Upon his discharge from active duty, he returned to rural Chetopa and purchased land and built the home where his wife, Pattsy, still resides. He was an avid cattleman/rancher.
After his military career, he returned to college and graduated Summa Cum Laude at Labette Community College in Parsons. He was a quiet man who loved to read books, especially westerns. His favorite author was Louis L'Amour. He was a loving father and devoted husband and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He loved baseball and while attending Chetopa High School had lettered in baseball. He played on a farm team in his youth and played with the great Mickey Mantle before he was famous. He especially enjoyed the annual family baseball games at Easter and holidays with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed cars and was a great mechanic.
Survivors include his wife, Pattsy, of Chetopa, KS; his older brother, Donald, of Oswego, KS; his children, Katrina (Wulf) Eskandari and husband, Mike, of Bartlesville, OK, Roy Marvin Wulf and wife, Amanda, of St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Howard Sidney Wulf and wife, Kelly, of Frisco, TX, and Alex Wulf of rural Chetopa, KS; eight grandchildren, Nesa Franks, Michael Eskandari, Chance Wulf, Kyle Wulf, Brenten Wulf, Brandi Jo Ellis, Stacie Lynn Ellis and Francheska Wulf; several great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, Michael Volk and Matthew Allison; and faithful dogs, T-Rex and Hollie, who were always by his side.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Marilyn Fugate; older brother, Ernest Leroy, Jr., and younger brothers John and Charles Wulf.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
