Mary Ellen Goodwin, 101, longtime resident of Edna, died at 7:25 a.m., Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Oswego Home Place.
She was born September 4, 1912 in rural Edna, Kansas to William John and Emma Frances (Robinette) Bennett. As a young girl she attended Rose Hill Country School.
On December 11, 1930, she and Dana Allen "Nat" Goodwin were married. They made their family home on the Goodwin ranch located 12 miles southwest of Edna in Craig County, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on January 18, 1986. Following her husband's death, Mary Ellen moved from the ranch to Edna where she had lived until becoming a resident of the Oswego Home Place in August of 2009.
She was a member of the Edna United Methodist Church and the Happy Hour Club. Through the years she enjoyed traveling with her family, playing cards, and in earlier years working with her flowers and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include:
One Daughter – Ann Kendall and her husband, Jerry Edna, KS
Five Grandchildren
Numerous Great and Great-Great-Grandchildren
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Zack Tim Goodwin on January 18, 1977; and eleven brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in the Edna Elm Grove Cemetery.
