Mary M. Hastings, 84, of Parsons, died at 11:05 p.m., Sunday, January 2, 2011, at the Parsons Good Samaritan Society.
She was born November 11, 1926, in Craig County, Oklahoma, to Artie Elbert and Rose Elizabeth (Darter) Ware. She grew up in Craig County where she attended country schools and high schools in Big Cabin and Ketchum, Oklahoma. She later moved with her family to Parsons where she graduated from Parsons High School.
Following high school, she attended Labette Community College and Neosho Community College where she earned her licensed practical nursing degree.
In earlier years, she worked at the Mercy Hospital and Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. In 1968, she began her 30-year employment at the Labette County Medical Center in Parsons where she retired in 1998.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Parsons where she also enjoyed working in the nursery.
On February 19, 1944, she and Arthur Hastings were married at the Baptist Church in Vinita, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death August 1, 1994.

One Sister – Iva Lois Mulanax Vinita, OK
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters, and four half-sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 6, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m., Wednesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
