Mary Genevieve "Jenny" O'Bryan

Mary Genevieve "Jenny" (Smith) O'Bryan, 84, of St. Paul, passed away at 6:45 a.m., Friday, February 14, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Pittsburg.

She was born April 13, 1929, in Walnut Grove Township near Kimball, Kansas, to Arnold and Jennie (Stevenson) Smith, the fifth of five children.

She attended Pleasant Ridge School and was a 1946 graduate of St. Francis High School in St. Paul. She attended Sacred Heart College in Wichita and then worked six years in California before returning to St. Paul. On October 17, 1953, she married John Casey O'Bryan at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. He preceded her in death on January 22, 2002. She was a homemaker except for eight years when she worked for the State of Kansas in Parsons.

She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella, had helped several years with the local CCD program when it was first being established in St. Paul, and had served as President of Osage Hills Country Club for a term in the 1970's.  Jenny loved animals, especially cats, dogs, and horses. She enjoyed her grandchildren, gardening, and current events, and was an ardent Democrat and supporter of St. Paul schools.

Survivors include two sons, Jeff and his wife, Terry, of Leawood, KS, and David and his wife, Jane, of St. Paul, KS; five grandchildren, Jayme, Jason, Jordyn, Jenny and Sarah; and five great-grandchildren, Max, William, Ryane, Grayson, and Charley.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Richard, Robert "Bob", and Harold Smith; and one sister, Marjorie Imbler.

In accordance with her wishes, her body has been donated to the Willed Body Program at The University of Kansas School of Medicine. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the Osage Hills Country Club, St. Paul Schools Alumni and Friends Association, or Osage Mission/Neosho County Museum. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
