Mary Jo Sevart, 92, of Parsons, passed away at 11:52 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at the Parsons Good Samaritan Society.

She was born December 22, 1923 on the family farm near South Mound, Kansas in rural Neosho County to Edward S. and Gladys (Hull) Volmer. As a young girl, she attended Union Elementary School in Neosho County. Her family then moved to Parsons where she attended eighth grade at St. Patrick's Catholic School and graduated from East High School. Mary Jo later attended Parsons Business College where she earned a Business degree.

On May 15, 1945, she and Harold C. Sevart were married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in South Mound. Through the years, Mary Jo worked at the Kansas Ordnance Plant, the Parsons Stockyards, and Sevart Refrigeration. While raising her family, she continued to assist her husband in his refrigeration business and later returned to work at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant until her retirement.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. In earlier years, she was a member of the Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, and the VFW Auxiliary. Mary Jo enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, listening to music, and pulling dandelions. She was an accomplished seamstress and especially enjoyed making clothing for her family.

Survivors include:
One Son – Gary Sevart and his wife, Melvetta Parsons, KS
One Daughter – Brenda Ozier and her husband, Bill Parsons, KS
Nine Grandchildren – Leanne Kehres, Ronald Sevart, Lisa Easterling, Ryan Sevart, Aaron Sevart, Gregory Sevart, Geoffrey Sevart, Scott Ozier and Mallory Ozier
Nine Great-Grandchildren
Two Brothers – Alfred Volmer CA
Eddie Lee Volmer and his wife, Harriett Independence, MO
One Sister – Marcena Volmer Edmond, OK

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold C. Sevart, on May 10, 2014; one son, Stephen Douglas Sevart, on April 19, 1966; one granddaughter, Christi Lynn Sevart, on September 5, 1970; one great-granddaughter, Brooke Easterling; and three sisters, Ida Ruth Fager, Lenore Fager, and Eileen McAtee.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 14, 2016 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends immediately following the rosary at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
