Mary Colleen Payne, 88, of Parsons, died at 11:53 a.m., Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Labette Health. She was born July 19, 1926 in Columbus, Kansas to Alfred and Martha "Blanche" (Rennie) Spencer. As a young girl, she grew up and attended school in Altamont and was a graduate of Labette County Community High School. She and Robert L. Payne were married December 8, 1945 in Olathe, Kansas. Through the years, they lived in various cities including Olathe, Erie, and Altamont. Mr. Payne preceded her in death on January 17, 1981. Following her husband's death, she moved to Parsons in 1982. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Parsons and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, sewing, and embroidering. Survivors include two sons, Terry Payne and Malissa Forbes, Parsons, KS, and Billy W. Payne and his wife, Sherry, Joplin, MO; one daughter, Judy Barney, Parsons, KS; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Rowena Arnold; a daughter-in-law, Debra (Buskirk) Payne; and a son-in-law, Jim Barney, on July 4, 2008. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Saturday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Memorials are suggested to the Labette Health Foundation for the Intensive Care Unit.
