Mary Ann Prose

Mary Ann Prose, 87, of Chetopa, KS passed away at 12:40 pm Sunday August 30 ^th , 2020 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Mary Ann was born on May 6 ^th , 1933 to Conrad and Rosa (Matal) Scheuerman in Bison, KS. She was the third youngest of a very large family. As a young girl, she grew up on a family farm until her father died when she was five and the family moved to town.

Mary Ann worked as a telephone switchboard operator after she graduated from Alexander High School. She met her future mother-in-law while walking to and from work and subsequently met her husband, Warren W. Prose. They lived many places including Little River, KS; McPherson KS; Abbeville, LA; Sullivan, IL; Bavaria,KS; Springfield, CO;Boise City, OK; Herndon, KS; Burlingame, KS and most recently Chetopa, KS.

Mary Ann worked as a school bus driver in Herndon, KS and in the deli at Warwick's Market in Chetopa, KS. She was a member of the Chetopa Ladies Auxiliary VFW and the First Christian Church in Chetopa.

Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. The yearly Scheuerman family reunions provided many good times and memories. Mary Ann's faith was very important to her. She was active in Bible Study and lead the singing at the church and at nursing home services. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, crocheting, music, and watching Gunsmoke and other Westerns. She also enjoyed dancing in her younger years.

Warren Prose and his wife Kathryn of Temple, TX

Wesley Prose and his wife Dana of Olathe, KS.

Eleven Grandchildren:

Brett Balocca, Laura Kruger, Nathan Prose, Michael Henson, Amanda Guillott, Rob Irwin, Ariel Henson, Chelsea Irwin, Joshua Hansen, Jessica Henson and Kalvin Prose.

Ten great-grandchildren:

Laila, Kaili, Hunter, Jackson, Laidon, Sonja, Liam, Ray, Elayna and Davina.

One brother, Arlyn Scheuerman of Great Bend, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren W. Prose; one daughter Caroline Lea; and 4 sisters and 11 brothers.

Visitation will be between 6:00 and 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 2 ^nd at the First Christian Church.

The funeral service will be at 2:30 pm Thursday, September 3 ^rd , 2020 at the First Christian Church in Chetopa, KS.

The graveside service will be at 1:00 pm Friday, September 4 ^th , 2020 at the Bean Cemetery in Little River, KS.
