Mary Lou "Lou" Sevart, 94, of St. Paul, Kansas, passed away at 10:20 a.m., on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.

Mary Lou Volmer was born on April 14, 1927, to Joseph J. and Emily (Hall) Volmer in rural Parsons.  She grew up on a working farm north of Parsons and attended country schools and graduated from St. Francis High School in St. Paul in 1945.

On September 26, 1946, Lou married her high school classmate, Joe A. Sevart, after he was honorably discharged from the United States Navy.  The couple was blessed with five children and 57 years in marriage.  In the early 1970's, the family moved to Texas and returned to her childhood home in Kansas in the late 1990's.

A faithful, lifelong Catholic, Lou was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Parsons and St. Francis Catholic Church in St Paul.  Lou's passion was her family, faith and friends.  She will be fondly remembered for her kind spirit, selflessness, and strong belief in the power of prayer.  She enjoyed family life, playing the piano, singing, dancing, swimming, playing cards, cooking and traveling.

Survivors include:

Two sons – Terry Sevart and his wife, Penny, of Midland, Texas

Jeff Sevart and his fiancée, Candice Armstrong Reese, of Sperry, Oklahoma

One daughter – Mickey Sevart of Thayer, Kansas

Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Sevart, on January 4, 2004; two daughters, Debbie Sevart, on November 5, 2001, and Jolene Sevart, on January 20, 2015; and two brothers, Merrell Volmer and Dick Volmer.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 19, 2022 at St Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul.    Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parsons.  The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 18, 2022 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.  The family will receive friends following the rosary.

Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick Catholic Church or St. Francis Catholic Church.  These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS  67357.
