Mary Nell (Shelley) Farris, 83, of Oswego, Kansas, died at 1:20 p.m., Sunday July 7, 2013 at Elmhaven East Nursing Home in Parsons. She was born February 23, 1930, in Newton County, Missouri to Delbert and Mable (Beaver) Shelley. When Mary was in the eighth grade, she moved with her family to Oswego where she graduated from Oswego High School. On August 22, 1948 she married Richard W. "Dick" Farris at the United Methodist Church in Oswego. Following marriage, they made their family home in Oswego where they have lived since. After their children entered school, she worked as a paraprofessional at Neosho Heights Elementary School in Oswego and also drove the kindergarten bus. Through the years, she also enjoyed babysitting children in her home. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Oswego where she also participated in the Women's Circle. She enjoyed making crafts, painting, traveling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored. Survivors include: Husband – Richard "Dick" Farris of the home Three Sons – John Farris and wife, Kristen Grove, OK William "Bill" Farris and wife, Theresa Oswego, KS Mark Farris and wife, Terri San Antonio, TX Two Daughters – Nancy Castle and husband, Dan Caney, KS Deborah Brooks Wichita, KS Seventeen Grandchildren Twenty-Seven Great-Grandchildren One Brother – Phil Shelley The Colony, TX Four Sisters – Cressie Warren Parsons, KS Patsy Davidson Tyler, TX Melba Bockman Spanaway, WA Shirley Justice Irving, TX She was preceded in death by two brothers, infant Jimmy Shelley and Dick Shelley; and two sisters, Eva Westervelt and Geraldine Casey. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013 at the United Methodist Church in Oswego. Burial will be in Park Cemetery near Columbus. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to Oswego United Methodist Church for sanctuary lighting.
