Mary Jane Topping

Mary Jane Topping, 58, of Chetopa, died at 12:30 p.m., Monday, January 20, 2014 at her home.


She was born August 2, 1955 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Albert James and Nadine (Ervin) Keller. In 1972, she graduated from high school in Neelyville, Missouri. She then attended Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, and later earned an Associate of Arts degree from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in Miami, Oklahoma. She had also earned a license in cosmetology.


She had attended the Pentecostal church. She enjoyed art, knitting and crocheting. While living in Reno, Nevada, she served as a Girl Scout den mother and was also a Little League assistant coach.

She and Michael Topping were married June 16, 1979 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He survives.

In addition to her husband, survivors include:
Mother and Stepfather – Nadine and Lee Eaglin Poplar Bluff, MO
One Son – Quinton Topping Chetopa, KS
Two Daughters – Alysha Topping Chetopa, KS
Melissa Grossman and her husband, Cory Baxter Springs, KS

She was preceded in death by her father in 1963; and one brother, Michael.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa.
