Mary G. Wagner, 89, of Chetopa, formerly of Oswego, died at 4:40 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Chetopa Manor Nursing Home.
She was born March 27, 1924 in Craig County, Oklahoma to John Walter and Rosa (Baunhofer) Miller. At the age of five, she moved with her family to Chetopa where she attended school and was a graduate of Chetopa High School. She then attended Coffeyville Jr. College and Kansas State Teacher's College in Pittsburg.
She and John H. Hellwig were married May 20, 1949. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1972. On August 16, 1975, she and Alfred Wagner were married. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1998. She had lived most of her adult life in the rural Oswego and rural Edna areas.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Oswego and, in earlier years, had also attended St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Coffeyville. She enjoyed needlework, cooking, reading and traveling.
Survivors include:
One Daughter – Rita Taylor Oklahoma City, OK
Two Granddaughters – Sarah Blomfield and Andrea Post
Two Great-Grandchildren
Two Sisters – Darlene Hellwig Oswego, KS
Geneva Pearce and husband, Leon Rural Oswego, KS
She was preceded in death by one son, Roger Hellwig, on December 11, 2000; and three brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2014 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 522 5th Street, in Oswego. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery near Chetopa. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Chetopa.
