Matthew Scott Herold was born April 10,1980 in Hays, KS. In April 1981 Matt "A gift from God"was given to his parents David and Suzann Herold.
Matthew died with his sister, Rebecca, by his side, at 9:27 AM at CRMC in Coffeyville, KS on Sunday July 26, 2020 from complications from Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy.
He attended Bartlett Grade School and graduated from Labette County High School in 1999.
Matt worked at Wal-Mart in Parsons, KS loading the pop machines for a time.
Matt enjoyed watching The Price is Right, American Ninja Warrior, Walker Texas Ranger, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Trek the Next Generation and Disney movies. His favorite Nascar driver was Jeff Gordon. Matt liked going to Walt Disney World and riding the Star Wars ride numerous times. Also, Dr. Pepper, but NO ICE, tater tot casserole and pizza.
He liked when his nieces and friends came to play Uno, board games or video games. His friends sometimes took him fishing.
Matt traveled with his family and friends to 48 states, Canada, Mexico and Belize.
Matt loved His Lord and Savior Jesus and His Word. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altamont, KS. He enjoyed his Sunday School Class with his teacher, Mrs. Linda Holtzman. His favorite hymn is Onward, Christian Soldiers. Matt helped with AWANA and listened to young men memorize Bible verses.
At age 14, Matt was diagnosed with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy. Shriner's Hospital in St. Louis, MO helped us find his medical condition and had several surgeries there on his feet.
He endured surgeries, wearing orthotics and muscle weakness for many years. Today in Heaven, he walks, runs, and jumps like the American Ninja Warrior he wanted to be.
In March 2019, Matt moved to Windsor Place in Coffeyville, KS. There he made many friends with the residents and received excellent, loving care from all the nurses and support staff.

Matt was preceded in death by an infant sister Cindy Dawn Herold and his Grandparents Boyd and Mildred Hazell and Henry and Pauline Herold.
The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 6, 2020, at the First Baptist Church in Altamont. The funeral service can be viewed live on the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 5, at the First Baptist Church.
