Maurice William "Bill" Bowman, 83, of Parsons, passed away at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Elm Haven East Nursing Home in Parsons.
He was born July 23, 1933 in Altamont, Kansas to Lee W. and Thelma M. (Tunget) Bowman. He grew up in Altamont where he attended Altamont Grade School and Labette County Community High School.
In 1953, he entered the United States Army where he served until his honorable discharge in 1955. Through the years, he worked as a cement finisher and as a laborer at the M-K-T Railroad from 1974-1988 and the Union Pacific Railroad from 1988 until retiring in 1997. Following retirement, he worked part-time at Orscheln Farm and Home in Parsons.
He was a member of the Excelsior House of Prayer near Erie. He enjoyed fishing, camping, listening to country and gospel music, and attending country music concerts. His greatest enjoyment came when spending time with his family and friends.
On April 25, 1960, he and Carolyn Louise Essig were married in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by three grandchildren, Amber Louise Hodge, James Brian Bowman, and Shelly Marie Bowman-Lee; three brothers-in-law, Bob Essig, Jack Robbins, and Stephen Essig; and a son-in-law, Randy Winters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
