Maynard W. Cook, 91, of Parsons, died at 8:30 a.m., Sunday, May 10, 2009, at his home. He had been in failing health.
He was born October 12, 1917, in Lanesville, Kansas to Judd W. and Anna (Kramer) Cook. As a young boy, he grew up near Montana, Kansas, and later attended Labette County High School in Altamont.
Through the years, he farmed, raised cattle, and worked as a truck driver for the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant and Neosho County.
He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Parsons. Maynard was an avid gardener and beekeeper, and thoroughly enjoyed raising honey bees and sharing the honey which he had harvested with family, friends and neighbors. He also enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He and Margaret Lamb were married November 14, 1939, in Erie, Kansas. She preceded him in death October 27, 1997.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Paul Cook; two sisters, Nellie Goodsel and Mable Tebbe; and a stillborn daughter, Beverly Sue Cook.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in South Mound Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
