Melissa Miller, 38, of Topeka and formerly of Parsons, passed away Monday, February 15, 2021, in Topeka.

Melissa Diane Cook was born on September 17, 1982, to Richard Leon Cook and Cleta Diane (Hunt) Cook in Fort Scott, Kansas. As a young girl, she grew up in Savonburg and Elsmore attending grade school at Marmaton Valley Grade School. In her teenage years, she lived in Parsons and attended Parsons High School.

With a special talent for fixing things, Melissa worked as a mechanic, handywoman and did lawn care. She lived in Pittsburg and most recently in Topeka.

In her younger years, she was a member of Foursquare Church in Parsons. She enjoyed being outside, working with her hands, playing softball, camping and fishing. One of her favorite things was her dog, Buddy, who she had raised from a puppy. She also enjoyed going to the casino.

She and Mark Veenstra were married. The couple later divorced. She and Scott Miller were married. He survives.

One grandson – Atticus Allen-Dean Curtis of Parsons, Kansas

Her mother and step-father – Cleta Diane and Kenneth Lee Sexton of Savonburg, Kansas

Her father and step-mother – Richard Leon and Tracy Cook of Elsmore, Kansas

Two brothers – Logan Cook of Elsmore, Kansa

Lorenzo Hunter-Lane Sexton of Savonburg, Kansas

Six sisters – Jennifer Faller of Parsons, Kansas

Jessica Keaton of Parsons, Kansas

Stephanie "Big Steph" White of Parsons, Kansas

Stephanie "Little Steph" Cook of Topeka, Kansas

Shannon Cook of Parsons, Kansas

Kaylie Lefils of Topeka, Kansas

There will be a Memorial Service at 6:00 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2021, at the Parsons Foursquare Church officiated by Pastor David Keaton. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons.
