Melvin W. "Swede" Tedstrom

Melvin W. "Swede" Tedstrom, 91, a longtime resident of Mound Valley, died at 8:54 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2007, at the Presbyterian Manor in Parsons where he had resided since January 5, 2006.

He was born December 26, 1915, near Mound Valley, to David Edwin and Carrie Nan (Allman) Tedstrom. As a young boy, Melvin attended Globe Country School and was a 1935 graduate of Labette County Community High School in Altamont.

He and Fern M. Stevenson were married March 30, 1939, in Independence, Kansas. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed near Mound Valley where they raised three daughters. In addition to farming, Melvin did carpentry work. They moved to Parsons in 1985 where they have resided since.

He had served on the Globe School Board and the Mound Valley Co-op Board and was a member of the Mound Valley Christian Church. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, and spending time with his family and friends.

Two Daughters – Janis Hansen and her husband, Kent, Wichita, KS;
Sharon Klein and her husband, Dave, Overland Park, KS;
Six Grandchildren,
Eight Great-Grandchildren,
Numerous Nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce (Joy) Brown, on November 28, 2004;
four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 24, 2007, at the Mound Valley Christian Church. Burial will be in the Mound Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 5:00 p.m., Sunday, December 23, 2007, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
