Merle E. Clawson

Merle E. Clawson, 97, of McCune, passed away at 12:35 p.m., Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Via Christi Village Court in Pittsburg.

Merle Eugene Clawson was born on June 8, 1925, to Grover Pearson and Kathern Elizabeth (Wolfe) Clawson in rural McCune, Kansas.  He was born and raised in the McCune area, living his entire life on the same farm.  After graduating from Rural McCune High School in 1942, Merle served in the United State Navy, returning back to the farm in 1946.

For 27 years, he worked for Atkinson Armature Works in Pittsburg.  Throughout the years, he also farmed with his son, Stan.

He was a member of the Osage Church of the Brethren in rural McCune.  In earlier years, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge.  He had also been a member of Good Sam's Camping Club.  Camping and working were two of Merle's favorite things to do.  His greatest joy came from spending time with his family.

On January 13, 1946, Merle and Juanita C. Voltz were united in marriage at the parsonage of the Osage Church of the Brethren.  She preceded him in death on November 3, 2017.

Survivors include:

One son – Stanley Clawson and his wife, Debbie, of Pittsburg, Kansas

Three grandchildren – Sara Imhof and her husband, John, of Pittsburg, Kansas

Eric Clawson and his wife, Whitney, of Pittsburg, Kansas

Greg Clawson and his wife, AnaMaria, of Green Bay, Wisconsin

Nine great-grandchildren

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Clawson; and one brother, Marvin Clawson.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 30, 2023, at the Osage Church in rural McCune.  Burial will follow at the McCune Cemetery.  The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m., on Monday until the service begins.
