Merwin Madewell Wagner, 81, of Chetopa, died at 11:00 a.m., Sunday, May 15, 2011, at St. John's Regional Medical Center in Joplin.
He was born July 25, 1929, in Chetopa, Kansas, to Charles J. and Ella M. (Madewell) Wagner. As a young boy, he grew up in Chetopa where he attended school and graduated from Chetopa High School.
He and Dawna Ballard were married September 9, 1950, in Oswego, Kansas. In 1956, they moved to California where he worked in construction building skyscrapers. In 1979, they returned to Chetopa where they have lived since.
He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Chetopa and was also a member of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Eugene Wagner.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at the Faith Baptist Church in Chetopa. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Tuesday at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.
