April 15, 1976 — March 31, 2012

Mesa Leigh Rupert, 35 of Chetopa, died at 2:55 a.m., Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Chetopa Manor, following a courageous six year battle with cancer.

She was born on April 15, 1976 in Coffeyville, Kansas to James "Jim" and Paulette (Polk) Ekhoff. She grew up in Edna and later moved with her family to Chetopa when she was in the seventh grade. She graduated from Labette County High School in 1994. She had attended Coffeyville Community College and Labette Community College. She later worked at the Buckboard Restaurant, Cinch and Ace. She also enjoyed amateur storm chasing.

During Mesa's six year battle with cancer, her children were her passion for life. She also had a goal of helping others who were suffering with cancer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Chetopa and also participated in the Relay For Life.

She and Dustin L. "Dusty" Rupert were married on March 17, 2002 in Miami, Oklahoma. He survives of the home.

Survivors: Husband – Dusty Rupert of the home; a son – Hunter Wayne Rupert of the home; a daughter – Kaiman Leigh Rupert of the home; her Mother – Paulette Wolfe of Chetopa, Kansas; her Father and step-mother, Jim and Judy Ekhoff of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; Two brothers – Cale Gabriel Ekhoff of Honolulu, Hawaii and Micah Dale Ekhoff of Chetopa, Kansas; One Step-sister – Keely Patrick of Carrollton, Texas and her Paternal Grandmother – Doris Ekhoff of Oswego, Kansas

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Carl Ekhoff, and maternal grandparents Dale and Maxine Polk.

The Memorial Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Chetopa. Burial of the cremains will take place later at Oak Hill Cemetery in Chetopa.
