Michael A. "Mike" Buffington, 60, of rural Parsons, passed away at 12:28 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2016 at his home.
He was born November 13, 1955 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Lester Thomas and Clara Lucille (Wilson) Buffington. As a young boy, Mike moved with his family from Arcadia to Pittsburg where he grew up and attended schools and was a 1973 graduate of Pittsburg High School. He later attended Labette Community College in Parsons and Technical School at Coffeyville Community College.
On his 18th birthday, Mike entered the United States Navy. Following his honorable discharge in November of 1977, he returned to Pittsburg where he worked at Hull and Dillon Packing Company. He then worked from 1978 through 1999 as a heavy equipment mechanic at Day and Zimmerman, Inc. in Parsons. From 2000 until recently, Mike worked as a diesel mechanic at Labette County Public Works.
He enjoyed auto body work, tinkering, and building houses. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He and Sindy A. Surridge were married on August 17, 1979 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.

One Great-Granddaughter - Aurora

Russell Buffington Ashland, MO
Four Sisters – Patsy Hansen Frontenac, KS
Lynn Giordano and husband, Jim Arma, KS
Jean O'Donnell and husband, Ed Pittsburg, KS
Jo Peterson Frontenac, KS
He was preceded in death by his parents and five brothers, John, Ed, Alvin Ray, Tom, and David Buffington.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 2, 2016 at the Parsons Nazarene Church. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Dennis. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons.
