Michael G. "Mike" Doherty, 72, of St. Paul, passed away the morning of Thursday, February 15, 2024, at his home.

Michael Gerard Doherty was born on December 16, 1951 to Joseph Duane and Virginia Lee (Watson) Doherty in Seneca, Kansas.  As a young boy, he grew up and attended school in Baileyville, Kansas, and during his adolescence in Harrisonville, Missouri.  When he was a teenager, Mike moved to St. Paul, where he graduated from St Paul High School and has lived since.

Mike had a proud and extensive work history including the plant management and dispatch for maintenance work for the city of St. Paul.  For a time, he worked for Hygrade Construction.  He loved his time working as a heavy equipment operator for Bills Coal.  For many years, Mike worked in sales at Herrman Lumber.  After many years at Greenbush Seed, he retired as a manager in 2017.  In retirement, Mike enjoyed having a part-time job at the St. Paul Market.

He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul.  His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.  He loved supporting his grandchildren in their extra-curricular activities.  A generous man, Mike enjoyed sharing his blessings with others including volunteering at Prairie Mission Retirement Village giving vocal performances.

On February 12, 1971, Mike and Joan Marie Norris were united in marriage at St Patrick Catholic Church in Walnut.  She survives of the home.

Other survivors include:

One son – Kevin Doherty and his wife, Margaret, of St. Paul, Kansas

Two daughters – Jill Chase and her husband, Darrin, of Louisburg, Kansas

Angie Tyson and her husband, Dan, of Panama City Beach, Florida

Six grandchildren – Caleb and Olivia Chase; and Brenden, Elise, Kenna and Megan Doherty

Step-father – Robert Ketchum of Harrisonville, Missouri

One brother – Pat Doherty and his wife, Janice, of Shawnee, Kansas

Two sisters – Joie Foster of Johnstown, Colorado

Nancy Westhoff and her husband, Bernard, of Cleveland, Missouri

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 21, 2024, at St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul.  Burial will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in St. Paul.  The rosary will be prayed at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, prior to the funeral Mass.

Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Catholic Church or Prairie Mission Retirement Village.  These can be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS  67357.
