Michael J. Madl, 62, of rural Walnut, died at 10:30 p.m, Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at his home. He had been in failing health for several months.
He was born, August 5, 1951 at Parsons, Kansas to Melvin and Barbara (Sellers) Madl. He grew up in the rural Walnut area and attended schools there until the school closed and he then attended the St. Paul High School and graduated there in 1971.
He worked for a time for the Whitewood Company at Chanute and then went to work at Advanced System Homes in Chanute where he worked 35 years until retiring due to ill health.
He enjoyed woodcrafting and doing etching of various kinds. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He had also served as a Boy Scout leader in the past for several years. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, Kansas.
He was united in marriage to Addie L. Thornton on July 15, 1995 at Walnut, Kansas. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include, one stepson, Austin Burke and his wife, Jamie of Walnut, Kansas; two stepdaughters, Samantha McMillan of Chanute, Kansas and Sierra Kirkpatrick and her husband, Craig of Walnut, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Megan McMillan, Katelyn Burke, Autumn Burke, Maya Burke, Jackson Burke, Zakary Kirkpatrick and Makenna Kirkpatrick; one sister, Mary Stickley of Pittsburg, Kansas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Melvin Madl, Jr.; and one son, Thomas Joseph Madl in 2003.
The funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 17, 2013 at the St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul, Kansas. Burial will follow at the St. Patrick Cemetery near Walnut, Kansas. The Rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Friday, at the St. Francis Catholic Church in St. Paul. The family will receive friends in Parish Hall immediately following the rosary.
