Michael S. Patterson, 74 of Parsons, died Saturday morning, November 22, 2014 at his home.
He was born November 17, 1940 in Pittsburg, Kansas to C. H. J. Patterson and Gladys (Pyle) Patterson. He grew up and attended schools in Pittsburg. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1958. He attended Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg for two years. He then began working for Foodtown Stores, Inc. In 1967, he moved to Parsons where he worked at Olson's Grocery Store until 1977. He worked for Valley Distributors for 6 years. He later worked as an insurance agent for Bankers Life until retiring due to failing health.
Mr. Patterson was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. In earlier years, he was a member of the Parish Council and served for several years as council president. He also served many years on the school board of St. Patrick's Catholic School. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and especially with his grandchildren. He was a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Kansas Jayhawks and Notre Dame. In his younger days he played the trumpet in dance bands.
He and Margaret VanBecelaere were married on October 22, 1960 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pittsburg. She survives of the home.

He was preceded in death by a son Michael Sean Patterson, Jr., two brothers, Charles and Thomas Patterson and two sisters Patricia Patterson and Kathleen Benage.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 Tuesday evening at St. Patrick's Church.
The family will receive friends in the parish hall at 7:00 p.m., following the Rosary.
