Micheal W. Young, 58, of Parsons, died at 2:40 p.m., Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Labette Health in Parsons.
He was born December 22, 1954 in Pittsburg, Kansas to Joe and Dorothy (Hicks) Young. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons where he was a 1972 graduate of Parsons High School. He then attended Labette Community College and Pittsburg State University.
He lived in Parsons throughout his life and worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant while attending school. In 1977, he began working at IMI Printing and later at The Flesh Company where he had worked mostly as a sales assistant.
He was a member of the former St. Mary's Catholic Church, now St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and was a third degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed woodworking, cycling and craft brewing. He was an accomplished trumpeter and had played trumpet and drums in several local bands in the 1960's through the 1980's. He was an avid musician, loved his cars and watching sports, and was an avid KU Jayhawk fan and was a proud Michigan State fan where his daughter attended college.
He and Ruth Spielbusch were married in 1978. They later divorced.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Phyllis Scott.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 29, 2013 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.
