Mildred E. "Eileen" Leap, 73, of Caney, passed away at 7:22 p.m., Sunday, May 6, 2018 at her home.

She was born September 5, 1944 in Parsons, Kansas to Kelley Leonard and Phoebe Carol (Hunter) Johnson. She grew up on the family farm south of Parsons. Eileen attended Altamont schools and was a 1962 graduate of Labette County Community High School.

On April 12, 1964, she and David Leap were married in Bartlett, Kansas. Following marriage, the couple lived in Blue Springs, Missouri for a time before moving to Bartlett in 1975. In 1985, the family moved to Bluff City, Kansas where she owned and operated the Bluff Store. In 1990, they moved to Attica, Kansas where she served as City Clerk before moving in 2000 to Caney, Kansas where they have lived since.

In earlier years, she attended Center Bethel Church in rural Parsons. She enjoyed bowling, quilting, and cake decorating. Eileen especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Two Sons – Cody Leap and his wife, Ivonne, of Caney, Kansas

Amos Leap and his wife, Shannon, of Grain Valley, MO

Two Daughters – Kelli Leap of Caney, KS

Jessica Garrison of Caney, KS

Eight Grandchildren – Chad, Sarah, Aaron, Stormie, Kodi Michelle, Shane, Nick and Jeffrey

Six Great-Grandchildren – Marshall, Myra Eileen, Aaliyah, Billie Renee, Steven and Traycen

Two Brothers – Carl Johnson and his wife, Sonya, of rural Parsons, KS

Mark Johnson and his wife, Jackie, of Pittsburg, KS

Two Sisters – Marilyn Peters and her companion, Eddie Fisher, of Parsons, KS

Susan Allison and her husband, Mike, of rural Altamont, KS

Her namesake and Aunt – Mildred Harshaw of Grants Pass, OR

She was preceded in death by her parents, and an infant son, Chad David Leap.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 12, 2018 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be at Lake Creek Cemetery near Bartlett. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association. These may be left at or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
