Mildred "Jo" George, 80, of rural Parsons, passed away at 9:12 a.m., Thursday, November 17, 2022, at Labette Health.
Mildred Jo Peoples was born on January 6, 1942, to Leonard Allen and Bernice Mildred (Pilkington) Peoples in Liberty Township in rural Montana, Kansas. As a young girl, she moved with her family into Parsons, where she grew up and attended school, graduating from Labette County Community High School.
On September 16, 1959, Jo and Walter Raymond George were united in marriage in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple settled in rural Parsons, where they farmed and raised their family. Jo continued her education and in 1990, earned an Associate's degree in nursing. Over the years, she worked as a registered nurse in various area nursing homes, until retirement.
A member of Parsons Nazarene Church, Jo was active in the church, including the Primetimers group, and a number of other organizations. Many young people benefitted from her sharing her skills and talents as a 4-H and Girl Scout leader for many years. She also served on the Labette County Fair Committee, the EHU extension unit, the PTA, and was a 25-year member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles. One of her favorite things to do was canning the produce from her garden. She also enjoyed gardening, growing irises, crocheting, bowling and going to the casino. Her family, though, was at the center of her life.
