Mildred L. Johnson, 99, of St. Paul, died at 1:21 a.m., Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Prairie Mission Retirement Village in St. Paul.
She was born June 12, 1915 in rural Neosho County, Kansas to Otto and Susie (Brainard) Kiister. As a young girl, she attended Mentor Elementary School and later graduated from St. Paul High School.
On May 15, 1934 she and Wayne W. Johnson were married in Lamar, Missouri. Following marriage, they moved to Bakersfield, California before returning in 1942 to Neosho County where they farmed and raised their family. Through the years, Mildred worked at Berry's Garment Factory in Oswego and the Heritage Nursing Home in Girard. She continued working into her 80's until retiring.
She was a member of the Christian Church in McCune. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and gardening.
Survivors include four sons, Ronnie L. Johnson and wife, Jayne, Berry, AL, Randy Johnson and wife, Mary, McCune, KS, William "Bill" Johnson and wife, Jan, Wylie, TX, and Terry Johnson and wife, Loretta, Erie, KS; one daughter, Linda J. Bever, and husband, Eddie, Garland, TX; fourteen grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Johnson, on May 23, 1990; two brothers, Amel and Harold Kiister; and one sister, Beulah Kuffler.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 27, 2014 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery near St. Paul. The family will receive friends from 7-8:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
