Mildred T. "Millie" Little

Mildred T. "Millie" Little, 90, of Parsons, Kansas, passed away peacefully in her sleep at 9:50 p.m., Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Elm Haven West Nursing Home in Parsons. She had been in failing health.

Mildred was born on December 28, 1923 in Billings, Missouri to Lenard and Lurla (Ellis) Teague. She grew up in Missouri and graduated from Clever High School in Clever, Missouri. Following high school, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri where she got her first job at Hallmark Cards.

On February 1, 1942, she married Daniel T. Little at the Clever United Methodist Church parsonage in Clever, Missouri. The couple celebrated 72 years of marriage this year at the nursing home.

Throughout their marriage, they had moved to various cities and states because of his job in the aircraft industry. Mildred worked in retail in many of those cities. She loved meeting people and those who knew her said she was one of the kindest persons they knew. She loved the outdoors and was famous for her roses and other flowers in her yards. She also loved to grow tomatoes and other produce in her garden and enjoyed sharing with neighbors and friends. She continued gardening and growing roses into her late 80's. Fishing was another favorite activity. While living on the lake, she had won a prize for the largest crappie caught at Lake Lotawana, Missouri. She loved to play cards, golf, and go to estate sales. Throughout her life, she had a love of nature and all of God's creatures.

Mildred's other activities involved her family. She followed her eight grandsons in their various sporting activities and her great-grandchildren and loved to cook and entertain her family. Everyone loved her fried chicken and sugar cookies. She and Dan moved to Parsons, Kansas eight years ago from Springfield, Missouri to be near their daughters.

Mildred is survived by her husband, Dan Little; three children, daughters, Joyce Burnett and husband, Larry, and Linda Nichols and husband, Jim, of Parsons, KS; son, Jerry Little and wife, Jane, of Indianapolis, IN; eight grandsons, Mike Burnett and Rosemary, Bob Burnett and Joline, Dan Burnett and Becky, and Steve Nichols and Becky, all of Kansas City; John Nichols and Heather, Springdale, AR; Bobby Nichols, Lawrence, KS; Jason Little and Sharlee, and Seth Little of Indianapolis, IN; fifteen great-grandchildren, Marla, Carl, Bryan, Seth, Ben, Joey and Emma Kate of Kansas City; Jackson, Olivia and Hannah of Springdale, AR; Tess and Maeve of Lawrence, KS; and Jerry, Cole and Alexsandra of Indianapolis, IN; two sisters, Helen Caul of La Crosse, WI, and June Hicks of Pierce City, MO; a brother, Jim Teague of Brookline Station, MO; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time, Thursday, at the funeral home. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, at the Springfield Veterans Cemetery, 5201 S. Southwood Road, Springfield, MO.
