Mildred I. West

Mildred I. West, 84, formerly of Warrensburg, Missouri and Parsons, died at 7:50 a.m., Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the home of her daughter, Mary Muninger, in Independence, Kansas. She had been in failing health.

She was born March 28, 1922, in Morris, Minnesota to Claude Orville and Edith Rose (McCracken) Brooks. As a child, she moved with her family to Sarcoxie, Missouri where she grew up and attended local schools. She later moved to Parsons where she worked at the former Johnson's Café, the Kansas Ordinance Plant, Swift and Fred Ronald Manufacturing.

She and Earl Stanley West were married on August 20, 1947 in Oswego, Kansas. Following their marriage, they lived in Parsons before moving to Warrensburg, Missouri in 1970. While living in Warrensburg, she was employed by Unitog. Upon returning to Parsons three years ago, she enjoyed volunteering at St. Vincent DePaul Society. Her hobbies included scrapbooking, working puzzles and playing cards, especially pitch and solitaire. She was a former member of the Central Avenue Christian Church in Parsons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl West on March 29, 2003; two brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter, Julie West.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. Burial will be in Star Cemetery in West Mineral, Kansas. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 13, 2006 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Care of Kansas. These may be left at or mailed to the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, 405 Main, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, KS 67357.
