Milton P. Asbill

Milton P. Asbill, 95, of Parsons, died at 1:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Labette Health.

He was born January 17, 1913, in Joplin, Missouri, to Walter A. and Bessie (Workman) Asbill. He grew up and attended school there before moving with his family to the Edna area. After leaving home, he served in the U.S. Navy.


He and Clarece Higginbotham were married December 27, 1941, in Joplin. Following marriage, they moved to Anderson, Missouri, for one year, where he worked in lead mines and also helped build Camp Crowder, a military base south of Neosho. In 1942, they moved to Parsons where they have lived since. While in Parsons, he worked as a railroad fireman and engineer for the MKT Railroad for over 30 years.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and all sports. He attended the Faith United Methodist Church in Parsons, was a 60 year member of the Parsons Masonic Lodge No. 117, A.F. & A.M., and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason in Fort Scott. He also was a member of the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Asbill; one sister, Mildred Asbill; and one granddaughter, Erica Hood.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 2, 2008, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons with Burial Rites given by Parsons Masonic Lodge No. 117, A.F. & A.M. Rev. Jack Dutton will be officiating the service. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m., Thursday, at the funeral home.
