Minor N. Holland

Minor Holland transitioned to be with her Lord and Risen Savior at 10:55 p.m., Saturday November 21st, 2015, at the age of 101 years, at the Good Samaritan Society.

She was born March 15, 1914, in Wagoner, Oklahoma to Benjamin and Mollie (Nero) Johnson. She grew up and attended school in Wagoner before moving to Parsons, Kansas in 1930 where she attended school and lived for more than 85 years.

She worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant as a Change House Attendant for twenty years until retiring in 1980.

She married Devore Holland in April of 1933 in Oswego, Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1970. Minor and her husband Devore were very active in the civil rights movement in the 1960s. They were active in getting African-American people registered to vote and provided transportation to the polls. They were strong-hearted democrats and had a very close relationship with Governor George Docking.

Minor enjoyed sewing and taking her morning walks with her dog Nosey. She loved preparing family dinners and her cobblers were awesome. She also made the best waffles and pancakes from scratch.

She had a passion for helping people and visiting the sick in nursing homes.

Minor was a faithful and active member of Macedonia Baptist Church for more than 50 years and held numerous offices before changing her membership to Watson Memorial. In 1981 she became a faithful member of the former Tri-State Faith Center, now Kingdom Gates in Parsons, where she served as a church mother.

Survivors include three daughters, Claudette Oliver of Parsons, KS; Eleanor Matthias and husband Austin of Denver, CO; Hettie Grimes of Oklahoma City, OK; one son, Gerald Holland and wife Pamela of Wichita, KS.

She had 19 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 22 great great grandchildren and one great great great grandchild. She loved them all and had a helping hand in raising some of them. Her surviving grandchildren are Homer Warren, III and wife Shana of Parsons, KS, Donald Warren of Parsons, KS, Sharmelle Davis and husband Marion of Parsons, KS, Charlie Oliver of Parsons, KS, Landis Turner of Parsons, KS, Dewey Oliver and wife Carmen of Waterbury, CT, Stacey Oliver and companion Bridgette of Girard, KS, Tony Anderson of Oklahoma City, OK, Claudinette Brooks of Wichita, KS, Kyla Walton and husband Ron of Wichita, KS, Shenae Bell and husband JB of Wichita, KS, Andrea Matthias of Denver, CO, Ricardo Matthias and wife Markita of Denver, CO, Austina Matthias and husband Pedro Guerrero of Houston, TX, and Phillip Moseley of Denver, CO.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by one brother; and six sisters; one son, Don Holland; three daughters, Betty Moseley, Darnella Elliott and Geraldine Warren; four granddaughters, Jacqueline Oliver, Sylvia Moseley, Lisa Wallace and Michelle Paige.
